An organization dedicated to improving our cluster and community
Ideas to get the word out about Shiloh Dads
• Make posters and place mentor sign- up sheets all over school. Get the word out about what we are doing and why.
• Hold an open house and light dinner for mentors, mentees and their families to meet and mingle. Mentors are encouraged to bring a friend who might want to be a mentor.
Activities for Shiloh Dads
• Form a litter/trash patrol (students / dads) on school grounds.
• Develop and maintain a recycling program at school.
• Shiloh Day: A day when the community volunteers to improve the school grounds. (Clean up, paint, repair, etc…)
• Halloween at Shiloh: Parents show up at school with candy. (Wear costume if possible)
• Dress for Success Day: Kids are encouraged to dress professionally for school 1 day a month.
• Car Maintenance Day: Teach mentees about simple car repairs and maintenance. (Changing tires, oil, brakes, etc…)
• Teach a kid (mentees) to play chess.
• Have mentees put together a care-package for service men/women.
• Have mentees establish a Pen Pal project with senior citizens in nursing home and/or children in local hospital.
• Custodian Appreciation Day: Make “thank you” posters and signs and place in lunchroom and hallways to show appreciation for the work they do for the school. (The same can be done for secretaries, office staff and cafeteria staff)
• In December contact a tree farm or nursery about donating a Christmas tree to a needy family.
• Parenting Seminars: Parents will meet to enhance their parenting skills.
• Learning at Home Seminars: Teachers teach methods that can be helpful in studying and homework. (Parents and students)
